On September 28, 2026, the new home of the Casamonti Collection, housed in Villa San Giorgio on the Lungarno Serristori in Florence, opens to the public following a restoration, transformation, and exhibition design project by Archea Associati.

The project emerged from a dialogue with the complexity of the historic building and the need to forge a new relationship between the palace’s spaces and the works in the collection. The design interprets the existing architecture not merely as a container, but as an integral part of the exhibition experience, creating a sequence of spaces in which proportions, materials, light, and architectural details establish a carefully balanced relationship with the artworks.

The design of the spaces guides visitors through the collection, alternating between more open areas and more intimate spaces, thereby creating different conditions for perception. The new exhibition solutions are integrated into the building using a contemporary and restrained design language that engages with the existing structure without blending into it, but rather making the layering of history and design clearly visible.

The result is architecture conceived both as an exhibition device and, at the same time, as a spatial experience: an intervention in which the historical character of Villa San Giorgio and the contemporary nature of the Casamonti Collection find a new balance, restoring to the city of Florence a place dedicated to contemporary art and culture.
