The new Leo France headquarters, designed by the firm Archea Associati, is located within a complex built in the early 1940s in Florence\u2019s Castello neighborhood, which once served as the headquarters of Seves, a manufacturer of glass-concrete bricks.<\/p>\n
The project stems from the desire to revitalize a currently disused and dilapidated complex by redeveloping an area with great potential, where the buildings interact not only with the exterior but also with one another. The result of the project is to enhance the appearance of the block by restoring the most valuable buildings with architectural merit and demolishing and rebuilding those that lack any architectural value.<\/p>\n
The project involves a combination of building replacement\u2014defined as the demolition and simultaneous reconstruction of two buildings\u2014and the restoration of the remaining main structures.<\/p>\n
The goal of the project is to carry out a comprehensive restoration of the real estate complex in question while maintaining its current industrial use, with the aim of relocating Leo France\u2019s costume jewelry and accessories manufacturing operations there.<\/p>\n
The site in question covers approximately 48,980 square meters, of which about 24,300 square meters are covered; the built-up area comprises nine main buildings, each with different characteristics and construction types, as well as outdoor facilities such as paving, fences, open spaces, and parking lots.<\/p>\n
The new Building C essentially consists of three main pavilions of varying lengths but similar geometry: the cross-section of each pavilion extends uniformly along the entire length of the structure. From the outside, however, the three main volumes are clearly visible, connected by smaller structures that share the same architectural language. Inside, the floor plan is organized along longitudinal and transverse axes that clearly delineate the new production areas.<\/p>\n
The design concept, on the one hand, meets the client\u2019s desire for a facility that prioritizes sustainability and energy efficiency, and on the other hand, ensures that air and light ratios are maintained in the workspaces.<\/p>\n
The structure features steel columns and floor slabs, while a wooden truss serves as the roof for the new wing. In cross-section, the main aisles have a gable-style roof\u2014typical of industrial pavilions\u2014featuring skylights with vertical windows facing north. The exhaust ducts for the Workshop and Electroplating departments are designed to minimize their visual impact and facilitate integration with the surrounding environment, while the photovoltaic panels\u2014installed on each of the three main structures\u2014are \u201ctotal black\u201d panels with black frames and high-efficiency black cells. The new production facility is open to the outside thanks to the large industrial-style windows on the two short facades.
