The new structure is a fusion of tradition and innovation, imagining two overlapping but distinct stadiums: the base, in reinforced concrete, is the historic one designed by Nervi, while the upper part, light and suspended, will be made of steel, a material that meets the latest technological and anti-seismic requirements. This choice not only ensures stylistic consistency but also preserves the elegance and lightness of the original forms, preventing new interventions from being invasive or massive.

The idea behind the project is that of an architectural system, with two distinct but harmoniously interconnected shells. Nervi’s work, which requires urgent restoration due to the deterioration of the reinforced concrete exposed to the elements, will be protected and enhanced by the new roof, which will have a dual function: to preserve the historic structure from the wear and tear of time and to offer spectators a comfortable experience sheltered from the elements. The roof will also be designed to amplify the sound inside the stadium, ensuring an immersive sound experience during events, but limiting the acoustic impact on the surrounding neighborhood.

The new stadium will have a capacity of approximately 50,000 seats, all covered, and will offer exceptional visibility thanks to the proximity of spectators to the field. Unlike facilities such as Rome’s Olympic Stadium, which are designed for multiple sports and feature significant distances between the audience and the field, the Flaminio will be designed as a compact “bowl,” enhancing the intensity and excitement of the game. The focus on comfort will be accompanied by a broader vision that aims to transform the stadium into a multipurpose center open to the community.

The project envisions the stadium as a lively, vibrant place 365 days a year. In addition to hosting sporting events, the stadium will feature spaces dedicated to restaurants, shops, gyms, offices, and areas for cultural events, such as concerts or public gatherings. Integration with the urban fabric is central: the fences, designed as transparent pivoting glass panels, will be open on weekdays, making the squares in front of them permeable, while they will be closed on match days to ensure safety. This new concept aims to transform the stadium into an element of urban regeneration, capable of enriching the life of the Flaminio district and the entire city of Rome.

The design approach follows Nervi’s original philosophy, imagining continuity with his vision while adopting modern technical solutions and high-performance materials. The stadium is not only a tribute to the past but also a symbol of innovation and sustainability. Slow traffic and accessibility by public transport are fundamental pillars of the project, which aims to reduce environmental impact and promote a new cultural model for enjoying sporting events, comparing them to the great collective events of contemporary society.

Marco Casamonti

[2216
1750,1781
2215
2217
1316
post-81581","progetto","type-progetto","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","anno-2216","luogo-italy","luogo-rome","programma-stadium","cliente-societa-sportiva-lazio","tipologia_progetto-architecture
["GET
