We are delighted to announce the imminent opening of the Teatro Nazionale in Florence, a historic gem in the heart of the city that is returning to its former glory after a long period of neglect.
Located behind Dante’s House, a few steps from Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, the theater has a centuries-old history: founded in the 17th century, it went from being a reformatory to a hospital, then became the Teatro della Quarconia, Teatro del Giglio, and, in the following decades, the Nazionale.
After more than forty years of neglect, Archea Associati began a complex restoration project that lasted four years. The renovated theater seats about 300 people, distributed across a horseshoe-shaped stalls area and 50 boxes. In addition to the main hall, there is a bookshop-café with a jazz area, a kitchen for events (seating up to 150 people), and, above the fourth tier of boxes, an events hall with a sliding roof, offering spectacular views of Florence’s historic monuments.
Still in its ‘running-in’ phase, the theater is temporarily open only for private events, pending authorization for public performances in 2026. The mayor of Florence has described the project as ‘crazy and ambitious’, but above all ‘a cultural asset, an architectural regeneration that enhances an important piece of Florence’s history’.
