The bookshelf stems from Archea Associati’s ongoing exploration of wood and its expressive and material qualities. Following the 2013 collection—inspired by the essential forms of tree trunks and elements gathered in the woods—this project introduces a more complex compositional principle based on the layering of distinct elements.
Crafted from planed oak planks and shaped wooden blocks that serve as spacers between the shelves, the bookcase is designed as a modular system in which the seemingly random arrangement of the blocks creates different configurations and dimensions. The end pieces complete the composition, defining its design with a nod to the cornerstones of medieval architecture.
The design thus combines the natural quality of the material with the freedom of composition, transforming structural simplicity into a dynamic balance between solid and void spaces and overlaps. The grain, cracks, and irregularities of the wood help give each element its own character, making the bookcase an object that successfully unites functionality, formal innovation, and the uniqueness of the material.
