The Teatro Nazionale of Florence hosted one of the most influential and visionary architects on the contemporary international scene. On Thursday, May 29, at 6:00 p.m., the lecture “Mindful Architecture” took place, featuring Vo Trong Nghia, founder of the international firm VTN Architects and a global leader in research on sustainable, natural, and regenerative architecture. The event was introduced by Marco Casamonti, founder of Archea Associati and editorial director of AREA – International Journal of Architecture and Design Arts, who dedicated a major feature to Vo Trong Nghia’s work in the monographic issue AREA 179. During the conference, Vo Trong Nghia presented a reflection on the concept of “Mindful Architecture,” a design approach that combines environmental sustainability, meditation, mindfulness, and the quality of the built environment. For the Vietnamese architect, in fact, architecture cannot be limited to the aesthetic or functional dimension, but must become a tool capable of improving people’s lives, regenerating cities, and restoring a balance with nature.
VTN Architects’ designs have become renowned for their use of natural and local materials, the integration of greenery into urban buildings, and the innovative use of bamboo as a structural element. Among their most notable projects are House for Trees, Farming Kindergarten, the Vietnam Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015, and numerous cultural, educational, and hospitality facilities built across Asia and Europe. With over 150 international awards to his credit, including recognitions from the World Architecture Festival, ARCASIA, Dezeen, and the World Economic Forum, as well as academic appointments at universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, Yale, and Columbia, Vo Trong Nghia is today considered one of the most authoritative voices in global contemporary architecture.
